Avoiding dust nuisance
In a densely populated country like Belgium, it is inevitable that the industry must take its environment into account. This is also true for Cemminerals.
The production manager continuously studies the wind direction, wind strength, and wind gusts to determine when they can unload a ship. Crane operators must also always pay attention to rapid variations in the wind.
Over the years, guidelines have emerged that one should rely on:
- How many wind gusts above a threshold value
- How long above a threshold speed
As we know, wind is variable in strength and direction. The erratic nature of a wind measurement makes it challenging to assess this accurately.
Captains of Logic
The cloud platform of Captains of Logic allows for the reading of measurement points at various locations. The logic utilizes an IoT weather station on-site. Additionally, live weather data is read from a private sensor network.
Challenge
A weather vane is an indirect way to measure wind direction. Turbulences cause the weather vane to deviate more than the actual wind direction.
Captains of Logic apply a physical model to the data stream, allowing the mechanical movement of the weather vane to be separated from the actual airflow.
The objectification and further refinement of the rules of thumb requires a correct application that is stimulated by an intuitive visualization.
Operator dashboard
Production management can always consult all data and automatic decisions on a detailed BI dashboard.
Operators always see what they need to know on a simple display. Every crane operator working on the site for the first time knows what is expected of them without any training.
